Ordering Information

If you would like to commission a portrait or order a print, you may use the online AnimalArt Order Form. If you would like to commission another type of work, such as a mural, illustration or graphic design project, please contact me to discuss. Gift Certificates are available as well.

Portraits

Portrait season is September through May. If you place an order for a portrait during the off-season, it will be put on a waiting list to be begun in September.

To order a portrait, you will need to send 3 things: an order form (see above), payment and photo(s) of your subject. All three can be sent online or through the mail. Portraits generally take about 4 weeks, but you can "rush order" your painting for $60 and have it finished in two. Around the holidays, rush orders may not be available due to high volume of commissions.

You will have ample opportunity to review the artwork before I send the painting to you, and your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Payment

You may pay for a portrait with a check, money order or credit card. Checks should be made out to Amanda Moeckel and sent here. Credit card payments (Visa and Mastercard) are taken through www.Paypal.com. Just click on the Paypal URL once you have filled out your order form, and "send money" to Amanda@MyAnimalArt.com. I will begin your portrait upon receipt of your payment and photos.

Satisfaction Guarantee

Upon finishing your portrait, I will e-mail or fax you a photograph for your approval. You will have two opportunities to request changes on the portrait. If you need me to make any changes after your second review, you will be charged an additional $40 for each request.

Shipping

Once I have your final approval and make any changes you request, I will send the portrait via US Priority Mail. You should receive your painting within 4 weeks of sending your order, contingent upon your timely approval. Photographs will be returned with your portrait.

Photos: the better the photo, the better the portrait...

I can work from almost any photograph, so don't hesitate to send one in because you don't think it's good enough. It's always best to have a really good, close-up photograph to work from, however. The more photos, the better. It helps me to see many different poses, and learn a little bit about an animal's personality before I start painting. You can even send video footage if you'd like. If you send more than one photo, please don't forget to indicate which pose you'd like me to use for the portrait. Please make sure that at least one photo shows the animal's eyes clearly. I reserve the right to refuse a portrait, or require an alternate photo, if I feel your photograph won't lend itself to a painting I will be proud of.

Here are a couple tips for good photo-taking:

  1. Take photos outside or in a brightly lit room during the day, so you don't need to use flash. Flash often leads to red-eye and distorts fur texture and color. Outdoor photos usually make for more interesting backgrounds, too.
  2. Be aware of the angle at which you take your shots, and the feeling that brings across to the viewer. The most traditional portrait photos are taken on the same level as the animal. Try squatting or lying on the ground to take your photos. Shots taken from above will make the animal's head look disproportionate to the body, which can be an interesting effect, but not always what one wants from a painting. Shots taken from just below the animal's head may give an interesting effect as well, but will also be somewhat distorted.

If you'd prefer me to take photos of your animal, and live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I can come to your home and take photographs for a $150 flat fee (examples of my photography). Photos will be taken with a digital camera, so you can choose on the spot which one you would like made into a portrait.
